The Mount Rainier Neighborhood

Mount Rainier is one of the most iconic volcanoes in the world. At 14,411 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier, also known as Tahoma, is not only an active stratovolcano, but is also the most glaciated mountain in the contiguous United States. Five major rivers are birthed on Mount Rainier. It is the third ranked of the 128 ultra-prominent mountain peaks of the United States.

Enjoying the Mountain

Mount Rainier is very popular with Washingtonians. Those visiting the Evergreen State enjoy climbing, skiing (downhill and backcountry), hiking, camping, and photography. Many people are just coming to appreciate the rich flora, fauna, and geologic topography. Trails and waterfalls abound in Mount Rainier National Park. You can find them on apps such as the Washington Trails Association (WTA) app.

Viewing the Mountain

While some claim to see Mount Rainier up to 210 miles away, there are numerous homes in the area that have beautiful views of the mountain. Mt Rainier has one of the highest prominences in the lower 48 states. Prominence is the amount it rises from its base. Mount Rainier’s prominence is approximately 13,211 feet. To put it in perspective, K2 has a topographic prominence of 13,189 feet.

 

 

Living Near the Mountain

The communities close to the mountain have a unique and awe-inspiring view of Mount Rainier. Communities such as Enumclaw, Carbondale, Bonnie Lake, Ashford, Elbe, and Eatonville are spectacular locations from which to have Mount Rainier fill your living room window. These communities tend to be smaller with that hometown community feel to it. Those looking for a more rural home would do well to consider a home in these areas. Searching in the Mount Rainier neighborhood will provide you with quite a selection of homes that would complete your dreams. 

If you prefer a more urban neighborhood, you do not need to travel far to have a view of Mount Rainier. Those traveling through Bonnie Lake on Hwy 410 on a clear day often have one of the most spectacular Mount Rainier views. Even many  homes in Seattle, Bellevue, and north, can boast of beautiful views of the mountain.
